Editor's Note On July 30, Saudi Arabia and 13 other countries, including Pakistan, announced the creation of the Multinational Maritime Defense Alliance as a framework to strengthen collective maritime defence cooperation. The coalition is aimed at safeguarding freedom of navigation through the Bab al-Mandeb Strait, the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden. The alliance comes as shipping through these critical waterways has declined sharply following a Houthi maritime blockade, raising concerns over global energy supplies and international trade.
