Population Growth

Summary. Population growth is a natural process, but when it exceeds the capacity of a country to provide resources, employment and basic facilities, it becomes a crisis. Pakistan, the fifth most populous country in the world, is facing one of the most pressing challenges of the modern era: population explosion. With a population exceeding 252 million individuals – with a 2.07 percent population growth rate – Pakistan's demographic expansion has become a serious concern. The issue is not merely about numbers; it's about the strain on resources – it increases the need for sustained investment in food security, housing, education, healthcare and employment opportunities – the imbalance between demand and supply and the socioeconomic consequences that ripple across every sector of national life. The challenge is compounded by the fact that Pakistan is still a developing country, struggling with issues of governance, poverty and inequality, which makes the management of such a large population even more difficult.
