Summary. For decades, Pakistan played a crucial role in helping the Afghan Taliban grow, especially during their rise in the 1990s. It felt like a smart move back then, a way to shape things in Afghanistan and keep some influence there. But today, the situation has completely turned around. Pakistan now finds itself in a tough, dangerous fight against the Afghan Taliban regime next door and the Pakistani Taliban, or TTP, which keeps causing chaos and bloodshed inside its own borders. What was once seen as a useful partnership has become a source of constant worry and loss.
