India’s Gen Z Moment

Summary. In recent months, there has been a global surge in Gen-Z–led mobilization. These youth protests are propelled by economic precarity, exclusion from power and especially corruption. Ouster of governments in Bangladesh, Nepal and Madagascar and changing or firing of ministers and rollback of unpopular policies and cancellation of lavish perks for lawmakers in Indonesia, the Philippines, Kenya, Timor-Leste, and the Maldives, as well as in other parts of the world, have brought these young people into the limelight. Now, the momentum has turned, once again, to South Asia, where India, the world's most populous nation, is facing the ire of young people who have made great headlines in recent days with the launch of the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), which gained so much popularity that the number of its followers reached millions within a few days.
