Climate Justice

Summary. Nature has always communicated with humanity - sometimes gently, sometimes with devastating clarity. When respected, nature sustains life with beauty and abundance. When exploited, it responds with floods, droughts, cyclones, earthquakes and heatwaves that are no longer merely natural events; they are warnings. The phenomenon of climate change, which is taking a heavy toll on humanity worldwide, is one expression of nature's fury and it proves that when the environment is disturbed, the consequences return with force. Ancient civilizations such as Mohenjo-Daro, Harappa and Taxila remind us that environmental shifts and changing climates have long influenced the rise and fall of societies. These stark warnings demand that countries, corporations and people fuelling the climate crisis must be held accountable. This brings us to the concept of climate justice, which seeks solutions that address the root causes of climate change and, in doing so, simultaneously address a broad range of social, racial and environmental injustices.
